About this template
This assignment tracker knows that a small quiz and a major paper are not worth the same evening. It is for college and university students who want their deadlines and their weighted grades in one place, so they can see where they stand before results day.
Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).
The dashboard
Nothing on the dashboard is typed. It fills itself from your coursework, and you can show all courses or pick just one.
- Due today and due tomorrow, by name, with the next 7 days and the next two weeks
- Upcoming deadlines, soonest first, with late work in red
- Overdue and active work counts
- Current grade: your weighted average against target, with your GPA
- Grades by course, current percentage against each target
- Workload by course: overdue, due soon and ahead
- The term week by week, and marks by week and by type of work
Weighted grades, not just dates
Most homework trackers stop at sorting by due date. This one weights the work.
- Up to 200 pieces of coursework, each with a weight percentage
- Your weighted average calculated per course and overall
- Letter grade and points from your own scale, so it doubles as a GPA calculator
- A target per course, with the number of courses on target counted
- How much of each course is actually marked so far, because an average built on a third of the course can mislead
- Due in 7 days, overdue and days left on every piece, in red when late
Courses, Today and Tasks
- Courses: 12 courses with credits, instructor and room
- Today and Tasks: a student planner for everything that is not coursework
- Start Here and Setup: setup in a few minutes
Light and dark editions
Every download includes a light edition and a dark edition. Every tab is restyled, not only the dashboard, and both use the same formulas. Each comes filled with a worked example and as a blank copy, in Excel and in Google Sheets. The worked semester has six courses, 27 pieces of coursework, a 76.8% weighted average and six items overdue, making it a full grade tracker example to learn from.
Works with
- Microsoft Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365, on Windows and Mac, and LibreOffice
- Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook you copy, not a PDF with a link in it.
- No dynamic arrays, no macros, no add-ins and no subscription
What you download
- Light edition: the Excel workbook filled with a worked example, and a blank one
- Dark edition: the same two files in the dark design
- The instruction guide, with one-click links to the Google Sheets versions (light and dark, filled and blank)
- The terms of use as a PDF
Your files are ready as soon as payment clears. The tracker is for personal and business use on your own devices, so please do not share or resell the files. Questions? Reach us through our contact page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Excel, or can I use Google Sheets?
Either. The download has Excel workbooks for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to copy the Google Sheets versions with a free Google account.
How are my grades weighted?
Every piece of coursework has a weight percentage. The tracker calculates your weighted average per course and overall from those weights and your marks.
Does it work with my school's grading scale?
Letter grades and points come from your own scale, which you set up, so it can follow the scale your school uses.
How many courses and assignments does it hold?
Up to 12 courses and 200 pieces of coursework.
What is the difference between the light and dark editions?
Only the look. Both have the same seven tabs and formulas, and both come in every download.
