About this template

This bill tracker spreadsheet shows every bill you owe on a day-by-day calendar, so a payment never catches you off guard. List your bills once, log what goes out, and you can see what is paid, what is due and what is late for any month of the year.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

The dashboard

Choose the full year or a single month and the cards and calendar follow. Nothing on the dashboard is typed; it fills itself from what you enter.

  • Bills due and paid: what was due, what went out and how many bills were paid
  • The bill calendar: the month day by day, marked paid, due, late or missed
  • The year at a glance: twelve months of bills and how each month went
  • Autopay or by hand: what leaves on its own and what you pay yourself
  • Bills by category: where the bill money goes, with every share as a percentage
  • Next bill: its day, its amount and whether it is on autopay
  • The next 14 days: every bill coming up, with the days left until it is due
  • Your biggest monthly bills
  • How much each account needs to hold to cover the bills that come out of it

A bill calendar for all twelve months

The calendar is built from your bill list and runs day by day across the whole year. Change a due day once and the calendar moves itself, so this due date tracker stays right without any rework. It covers monthly bills on autopay and anything you pay by hand.

Twenty-one connected tabs

Everything reads from one transaction list, so nothing is typed twice and there are no pivot tables to refresh. It is a bill payment tracker and a budget spreadsheet in one, with every category feeding the same totals.

  • 2,000 transaction rows and 40 categories, all renameable
  • Budgets, variances, totals and percentages calculated for you
  • Over-budget and overdue amounts change color on their own
  • Dropdown lists that grow as you add accounts and categories
  • Charts that redraw from your own numbers, not pictures

A filled-in copy to learn from

Alongside the blank workbook you get a full demo year you can click through, so you can see every tab working before you enter your own money. Both come in Excel and in Google Sheets.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it in Google Sheets instead of Excel?

Yes. The Excel workbook runs in Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions for a free Google account.

What happens if a bill's due date changes?

Change the due day once in your bill list and the calendar moves the bill for every month by itself.

Can I tell autopay bills apart from ones I pay myself?

Yes. The dashboard splits what goes out on its own from what you pay by hand, and the next-bill card says whether it is on autopay.

Will it show me which bills are coming up?

Yes. The dashboard lists every bill due in the next 14 days with the days left, and the calendar marks each day as paid, due, late or missed.

Does it connect to my bank account?

No. You log what goes out and the workbook does the rest. There is no bank connection, no add-in and no subscription.
