About this template
This credit card payoff tracker is for anyone juggling several cards at different rates. It builds one plan to clear your credit card debt, shows how much of your limits you are using, and warns you before a 0% offer runs out.
Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).
The dashboard
Choose all cards or a single card and the figures, charts and table follow. Nothing on the dashboard is typed; it fills itself from what you enter.
- Owed on cards: what is left and how much you have paid down
- Limit used: the share of your limits in use, turning amber past the 30% line
- Limit used month by month: your plan's path down, with what you have actually paid
- Every card: rate, owed, limit, used, interest and the month it is paid off
- 0% offers ending: when each offer ends and what will still be owed on it then
- Saved against minimums: the interest your plan saves over paying only the minimums
- Interest by card, month by month
- Your cards ranked by rate, highest first, so you know which costs most
- Minimums against your plan: the date, months and interest if you paid only the minimums
Debt snowball and debt avalanche, calculated in full
Rates of 20% and over flag themselves, and both payoff strategies run side by side.
Most templates give you one calculator and one answer. This one runs a full month-by-month schedule for the snowball and for the avalanche, then shows the gap between them in dollars and in months, so you choose knowing what the choice costs. The snowball rolls for real: when a debt clears, its minimum payment joins the next one automatically, and that rolling amount is part of every date in the file.
Ten connected tabs
- Debts: balance, rate and minimum payment, the only things you enter
- Snowball Schedule: every month and every card until the last one clears
- Avalanche Schedule: the same schedule, ordered the other way round
- Payoff Plan: the order to pay them in and what each will cost you
- Compare: both strategies side by side, with the difference in dollars
- Payoff Calendar: the month each one disappears and what it frees up
- Payment Log: what you actually paid, split into principal and interest
- Dashboard: six live figures, including your debt-free date

What this debt calculator works out
- Your debt-free date, from your own numbers
- The total interest you will pay across the whole plan
- How many months each individual debt takes to clear
- The payoff order under either strategy, set automatically

- Charts that redraw from your own numbers

Frequently asked questions
Can I use it in Google Sheets as well as Excel?
Yes. The Excel workbook runs in Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions for a free Google account.
Does it track 0% balance transfer offers?
Yes. The dashboard shows when each 0% offer ends and what will still be owed on that card when it does.
Why does it show limit used?
The dashboard shows how much of your limits you are using, turning amber past the 30% line, and charts how that falls as you follow the plan.
How much interest will my plan save?
The dashboard compares your plan with paying only the minimums, showing the date, months and interest for each, and how much interest your plan saves.
What do I have to enter?
Each card's balance, rate and minimum payment, then the payments you actually make. Everything else is calculated.
