About this template
This renovation budget spreadsheet tracks the money room by room, instead of as one big number you stopped believing weeks ago. It is for anyone mid-project who has lost track of what a room was supposed to cost.
Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).
Estimate against actual, per room
Every line carries an estimate and an actual, with what is still to pay and whether it came in over or under flagged automatically. Per-room totals add themselves up, so a home renovation that drifts shows you exactly where. Every figure on the dashboard is calculated from the tabs behind it. Nothing is typed into a summary, so the front page can never disagree with the rows it came from.
What is included
- Budget: 200 lines with estimate against actual, still to pay per line, over or under flagged, and per-room totals
- Quotes: 80 rows with three prices per job side by side, what shopping around saved, and each quote marked accepted, quoted or rejected; twelve trades are listed
- Tasks: 200 rows by room and by state, with done tasks fading out and jobs left counted
- Dashboard: live, read from everything above
The workbook has seven connected tabs, and every tab reads the same source list, so nothing is entered twice. It doubles as a quote tracker and a cost tracker, and as a remodel planner for the jobs still to do. The same layout works for a small construction budget on a single room or a whole-house project.
You get real spreadsheet files, not a PDF with a link in it: Excel and Google Sheets, each filled in and each blank and ready for yours. The filled copy is the file in the photos, so you can see how it behaves before you type anything.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use it in Excel or Google Sheets?
Either. You get Excel files for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make Google Sheets copies with a free Google account.
Can I compare quotes from different trades?
Yes. The Quotes tab holds three prices per job side by side, works out what shopping around saved, and marks each quote accepted, quoted or rejected.
Does it show the cost of each room?
Yes. Every budget line points at a room, and per-room totals add themselves up for estimate and actual.
How many budget lines can I add?
The Budget tab has 200 lines, the Quotes tab 80 rows and the Tasks tab 200 rows.
Does it track what I still owe?
Yes. Still to pay is calculated on every line, and lines that come in over the estimate are flagged.
