About this template

This medical bill tracker shows what was billed, what each insurer paid, what was written off and what is genuinely yours to pay. It is for anyone handling a stack of medical expenses who wants to check every bill before paying it, and then pay down any medical debt that remains.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

Two insurers per bill

Each bill has two insurance submissions, primary then secondary, because one column is not how real coverage works. Your share is calculated as billed less both insurers less the write-off, never typed. When a provider's statement disagrees with that column, you know to make the call before you pay. In the demo, a bill of 3,840 had 3,072 paid by insurance and 460 written off, leaving 308 owed.

Bill, Receipt and EOB on every line

Three document columns sit on every bill. The strip at the top counts how many bills are still waiting on an EOB, so the sheet doubles as an EOB tracker for insurance claims you have not yet checked.

Eleven connected tabs

Everything recalculates from your debt list, so nothing is typed twice. Once the bills are settled, the debt payoff side takes over:

  • Both snowball and avalanche calculated in full, month by month
  • Freed minimums roll onto the next debt automatically
  • A payoff date per debt, and the month you are done
  • 400 payments logged, split into principal and interest
  • Charts that redraw from your own numbers, not pictures

The dashboard shows what you still owe, the order to pay it in and the month you are clear.

You get a filled-in copy as well as a blank one: a full demo you can click through and a blank ready for your own numbers, in Excel and Google Sheets. There are no dynamic arrays, no macros and no add-ins, and the Google Sheets version is a real workbook, not a PDF with a link in it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work in Excel or Google Sheets?

Both. You get Excel files for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make Google Sheets copies with a free Google account.

Can I record two insurance plans?

Yes. Every bill has a primary and a secondary insurance submission, and your share is calculated after both and after any write-off.

How does it help me check an EOB?

Each bill has Bill, Receipt and EOB columns, and the strip at the top counts how many bills are still waiting on an EOB.

Can it plan paying off medical debt?

Yes. Snowball and avalanche are both calculated month by month, freed minimums roll onto the next debt, and each debt gets a payoff date.

Is this medical or legal advice?

No. It is a tracker that records and calculates what you enter. Check every figure against your own statements.
