About this template
This pet expense tracker works out when each booster, wormer and flea dose is next due, and what each animal really costs you. It is for owners of up to eight pets who want health records, reminders and spending in one place instead of in a drawer of receipts.
Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).
One care log for everything
Everything that happens to your animals goes on one Care Log: a vet visit, a booster, a bag of food, an insurance premium, a night in kennels. Seven other tabs read from that one line, so the Vet Visits, Vaccinations, Medications and Grooming tabs fill themselves.
- A Care Log with room for 400 entries, one line for each thing that happened
- A weight log against the ideal weight on each pet's profile, charted
- Profiles for up to 8 animals, each with breed, microchip, insurer, policy and usual vet
Every due date calculated
Enter 12 months against a booster, 3 against a wormer or 1 against a flea dose, and the file works out when each is next due, how many days away that is, and flags anything overdue in red. Nine months of a monthly flea treatment gives one reminder, not nine, because an entry replaced by a later one stops asking. As a vaccination tracker and pet medication log, the Reminders tab lists everything due, soonest first, with overdue items at the top.
What each animal costs
- Ten categories across twelve months, then the same total split per pet and per month
- Spending against the budget you set, and what the year is on course for
- The vet kept separate from food, because those two numbers move for different reasons
Did the pet insurance pay for itself?
The Insurance tab sets the premiums paid against what actually came back, claim by claim and animal by animal. Claimed and paid back are kept as two different numbers, and only the amount paid back counts toward the total.
Thirteen connected tabs
Start Here, Setup, Pets, Care Log, Vet Visits, Vaccinations, Medications, Grooming, Weight Log, Costs, Insurance, Reminders and Dashboard. Charts and figures redraw from your own numbers, not static pictures, making it a multi pet tracker and pet health log in one file. The intervals are the ones you type, and your vet sets those.
Works with
- Microsoft Excel 2016 or later, on Windows or Mac
- Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook, not a PDF with a link in it.
- No dynamic arrays, no macros and no add-ins, so it behaves the same on Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365 and in LibreOffice. No Microsoft 365 subscription is required.
- No subscription
What you download
- Two Excel files: a demo year for three animals with 117 entries, an insured leg injury, a dental and a rabbit with no policy, and a blank one for your own pets
- The instruction guide, which has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions (filled and blank)
- The terms of use as a PDF
Your files are ready to download as soon as payment clears. Questions before or after you buy? Use our contact page and we will help.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work in Excel or Google Sheets?
Both. The Excel files run on Excel 2016 or later on Windows or Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions for a free Google account.
How many pets can I track?
Up to 8 animals, each with its own profile, costs, weight log and reminders.
Will it remind me when vaccinations are due?
It calculates the next due date from the interval you enter and lists everything due on the Reminders tab, with overdue items in red at the top. It is a spreadsheet, so it shows reminders when you open it rather than sending alerts.
Can I see whether my pet insurance is worth it?
Yes. The Insurance tab compares premiums paid with what came back, per claim and per animal.
Is this veterinary advice?
No. It is a record-keeping file. The intervals in it are the ones you type, and your vet sets those.
