About this template

This student planner tells you whether you are on course for the grade you need, even when only half the coursework is in. It is an all-in-one planner for college and university students who want marks, deadlines, timetable and the rest of life in one file.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

Your real mark, mid-term

Most planners average all the work that has been set, so three pieces into five a course can look like 40% and you either panic or stop looking. Here, Current % is a weighted average of the work that has been marked and nothing else. Beside it, % Graded shows how much of the course that mark actually covers, so a course is not shown as failing because two pieces have not happened yet.

A grade scale you can change

Letter grades and grade points come from a scale written into the file, not a fixed US one, so the GPA calculator works wherever you study. 70 is a top mark in some places and a C in others, and you can set it either way.

Every assignment, weighted

The assignment tracker has 200 rows for course, what it is, type, due date, weight, score, out of and percentage.

  • Days left works itself out
  • Status changes by itself: Overdue, Due soon, Ahead or Marked, with nothing to tick
  • Overdue and due in the next 7 days counted at the top

Courses, timetable and the rest of the term

  • Courses: up to twelve on one page, with credits, instructor, your target, your current mark, the letter, the grade points and the room. Green when you are on target, red when you are more than five points under it.
  • Timetable: a weekly class schedule you type straight into, with taught hours and free slots counted per day
  • Today, Tasks, Goals and Habits, because a term is not only coursework
  • A dashboard reading all of it

The ten connected tabs are Start Here, Setup, Courses, Coursework, Timetable, Today, Tasks, Goals, Habits and Dashboard, so this college planner tracks weighted grades and everyday life together.

Works with

  • Microsoft Excel 2016 or later, on Windows or Mac
  • Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook you take a copy of, not a PDF with a link in it.
  • No dynamic arrays, no macros and no add-ins, so it behaves the same on Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365 and in LibreOffice. No Microsoft 365 subscription is required.

What you download

  • Two Excel files: a second-year semester with six courses, twenty-seven pieces of work and a student strong in two subjects and struggling in statistics, and a blank one for your own
  • The instruction guide, which has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions (filled and blank)
  • The terms of use as a PDF

Your files are ready to download as soon as payment clears. The file is for your personal use, so please do not share or resell it. Questions before or after you buy? Use our contact page and we will help.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work in Excel or Google Sheets?

Both. The Excel files run on Excel 2016 or later on Windows or Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make your own copy of the Google Sheets versions.

How is my current mark calculated?

It is a weighted average of marked work only. A separate % Graded column shows how much of the course that mark covers.

Can I use my own university's grading scale?

Yes. Letter grades and grade points come from a scale in the file that you can edit.

How many courses and assignments can it hold?

Up to twelve courses and 200 pieces of coursework, each with its weight and due date.

Is there a timetable?

Yes. The Timetable tab is a weekly grid you type into, with taught hours and free slots counted for each day.
