About this template

This wedding savings tracker is for couples who have set a date and a number and want to know, every month, whether they are saving enough. Enter the wedding date and when you started, and the workbook works out what each remaining month needs to find.

Most wedding budget templates begin once the money is already in the bank. This one starts earlier, with the saving itself, and keeps track of vendor deposits along the way.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

The dashboard

Nothing on the dashboard is typed. Pick every category or one vendor and the budget and balances follow.

  • Saved so far: the wedding fund, with a month-by-month mini chart
  • Saved against the path: the fund each month against the straight line to the day
  • Days to go: a countdown to the wedding, and what is needed each month
  • Put in each month: what went into the fund, and what is needed from here
  • Balances coming due: the next vendor balances to pay, soonest first
  • Every vendor: deposit paid and balance still owed, vendor by vendor
  • Where the money goes: the budget by category, with each share as a percentage

What sets it apart

  • A date that drives the numbers: months left and the monthly figure come from the wedding date and the day you started saving
  • Ahead or behind, every month: what you have saved against the straight line to the full target by the month before the wedding, so a light month shows up straight away
  • Every vendor, paid and owed: 14 categories, each with a vendor, a budget, the deposit paid, the balance and its due date, plus what is left in the fund after deposits
  • Two charts on the fund tab: the fund against the path, and every vendor's paid and owed, across up to 24 months

A full budget underneath

The rent still has to be paid while you save, so the savings goal sits inside a full budget with twelve connected tabs: Start Here, Setup, Wedding Fund, Accounts, Income, Recurring, Transactions, Bill Calendar, twelve monthly tabs, Annual Summary, Expense Breakdown and Dashboard. The worked example is a December wedding 23 months after saving began, with fourteen categories and deposits already paid. Eight months in, the fund is slightly behind the line, and the monthly figure needed has been raised to match. It shows a simple way to save for wedding costs without guessing.

Light and dark editions

Every download includes a light edition and a dark edition. Every tab is restyled, not just the dashboard, and both use the same formulas. Each comes filled with a worked example and blank, in Excel and in Google Sheets.

Works with

  • Microsoft Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365, on Windows and Mac, and LibreOffice
  • Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook you make your own copy of, not a PDF with a link in it.
  • No dynamic arrays, no macros, no add-ins and no subscription

What you download

  • Light edition: the Excel workbook filled with a worked example, and a blank one
  • Dark edition: the same two files in the dark design
  • The instruction guide, which has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions (light and dark, filled and blank)
  • The terms of use as a PDF

Your files are ready to download as soon as payment clears. The template is for personal and business use on your own devices, so please do not share or resell the files. Questions before or after you buy? Use our contact page and we will help.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?

Yes. You download Excel workbooks for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make your own copy in Google Sheets with a free Google account.

How does it work out what to save each month?

You set the wedding date, the target and when you started saving. The tab works out how many months are left and what each one needs, and updates it if you fall behind.

Can I track deposits paid to vendors?

Yes. Each of the 14 categories has a vendor, a budget, the deposit paid, the balance still owed and when it is due.

How far ahead can I plan?

The fund is tracked for up to 24 months against the straight line to your wedding date.

What is the difference between the light and dark editions?

Only the look. Both have the same tabs and formulas, and both are included in every download.
