About this template
This hive inspection log is for beekeepers who look inside their colonies every week or two through the season and want a clear record of what they saw. One row per inspection, seven short entries, and the workbook keeps the season in order.
An inspection is a handful of quick observations made with the roof off and gloves on, and by evening most of them are gone. Typing them in takes about ninety seconds and keeps them for good.

Seven observations, seven columns
- Queen seen: yes, no, or eggs only
- Brood frames and stores, side by side, which is how you spot a colony going backwards weeks before it is obvious
- Temper, scored one to five, because a bad-tempered hive is a fact worth recording and acting on
- Colony state, one of six, each with its own color
- Supers on and honey taken in kilos
What gets counted for you
Hives that are queenless or weak are counted on the summary strip, so the colony that needs attention is not buried in fifty rows of notes. Varroa treatments are counted too, which makes the log useful as a simple varroa tracker and queen record alongside your honey tracker.
Six connected tabs
- Start Here and Setup: a guided start and your hives
- Hives: room for 300 inspections across as many hives as you keep
- Tasks: jobs like ordering frames, making up syrup or booking a swarm collection
- Today: what the next ten days need
- Dashboard: reads every tab and fills itself
A full season to learn from
The worked example records 51 inspections across three hives in one season, from the first look in April to the September feed. It has brood against stores on every row, temper scores, 54.4 kg of honey taken, one varroa treatment and two hives flagged queenless or weak. A blank copy is ready for your own beekeeping log and apiary records.
