About this template
This wine cellar spreadsheet is for collectors with a rack of bottles laid down and a few they are nervous about opening. Every bottle of wine or spirits goes on one line with producer, region, vintage, its state and its value, and the dashboard tells you what is ready to drink.
A cellar is the one collection meant to be enjoyed, so the real question is not only what it is worth but whether tonight is the night.

It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. The dashboard
Nothing on the dashboard is typed. It fills itself from your list, and you can pick Whole cellar, red, white, whisky or any type and the page follows.
- Ready to drink: bottles inside their window now, and those to drink by next year
- Ready, year by year: how many bottles you could open in each of the next twelve years
- What to open first: anything past its best first, then by drink-by year
- Past their best: bottles past their drink-by year, and what they are worth
- Bottles and vintages: every bottle you hold, the average value of one, and bottles by vintage from before 2000 onward
- Gain: what the cellar is worth now over what you paid
- By type and by region: value across red, white, sparkling, fortified, sweet and spirits, and the regions worth most
What sets it apart
- Cost against worth on every bottle, with the gain totaled and shown as a share of what you paid
- Five states: in the rack, drinking now, laying down, opened or gone, which makes it a drinking window rather than a stock count
- Gone stays on the list at zero, so the cellar log keeps a record of every bottle you have enjoyed
- Whisky on the same list: a whisky collection uses the same eleven columns as your wine
Inside the workbook
The connected tabs are Start Here, Setup, the main cellar list, Tasks, Bills and Dashboard. The main list holds 300 bottles with producer, region, vintage and where each bottle is kept, and the best single line is named. Tasks and Bills sit alongside for everything else the cellar needs.
The worked example is a 30-bottle wine inventory across Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone, port and a shelf of whisky, with two bottles recorded as gone. Explore it, then start your own bottle inventory from the blank copy.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?
Yes. You download Excel workbooks for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make your own copy in Google Sheets with a free Google account.
Can I track whisky and other spirits as well as wine?
Yes. Wine and spirits share the same columns on one list, and the dashboard can show the whole cellar or any single type.
How does it show what is ready to drink?
Each bottle has a drinking window and one of five states. The dashboard lists bottles ready now, those to drink by next year and anything past its best.
What happens when I drink a bottle?
Mark it as gone. It stays on the list at zero value, so you keep a record of it.
How many bottles does it hold?
Room for 300 bottles, each with producer, region, vintage, state and where it is kept.
