About this template

This travel budget spreadsheet lets you log spending in whatever currency you paid in and works out what it cost you. It is for honeymoons and trips abroad, where the villa is in one currency, the market in another, and converting by hand is how budgets get abandoned on day three.

Spending in any currency

Enter 420 rufiyaa and the file converts it for you. Each currency has one rate, held once on its own tab and looked up by every line. If the rate you used turns out to be two percent off, you fix one cell and the whole trip converts again.

A budget per person and per day

The budget runs estimated against actual on every line. It shows what each of you is spending and what that comes to per day, worked out from the dates and party size on Setup, so the figures are right without being told.

Everything counts from the day you go

The whole file works from one departure date. Change it and the travel itinerary, every booking and every pre-trip deadline move with it. Nothing is typed twice.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work in Excel or Google Sheets?

Both. The Excel files run on Excel 2016 or later on Windows or Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions for a free Google account.

Can I log spending in more than one currency?

Yes. Each spending line can be in any currency. You hold one rate per currency on the Currencies tab and every line converts with it.

What if our travel dates change?

Change the departure date and the itinerary, bookings and pre-trip deadlines all move with it.

Does it split costs per person?

Yes. The budget shows spending per person and per day, worked out from the party size and dates on Setup.

Is there a packing list?

Yes. The packing list is organized by category and by person and shows how far through it you are.
