About this template

This tv show tracker answers the one question a watchlist is really for: what should I put on next. It is for anyone following several series at once, plus films, who wants their movie watchlist, viewing history and yearly goal in one place.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

Seasons: the next one, worked out

The Seasons tab finds the lowest-numbered season of each show you have not watched yet. You do not type it. Mark a season finished and the next one moves up on its own. When the next season is not on your list yet, it tells you so plainly instead of leaving a blank cell. Shows you are part-way through are counted, with the episodes still to go.

The watchlist

The Watchlist holds 400 titles, each with show, season number and episode count, so it works as a series tracker and episode tracker as well as a film log.

  • Four statuses counted: watched, watching, to watch and gave up
  • What you spent on rentals, buys and cinema tickets
  • What the titles you have not watched yet are worth, which is the more honest of the two numbers

A watch log, if you want one

The Watch Log has room for 900 nights, with episodes and minutes. That gives you hours watched and minutes per episode. If you would rather not log nights, skip it and everything else still works.

A goal, genres and more

  • Challenge: a yearly goal with pace, ahead or behind today, what you are on course for and the date you would finish at your current rate
  • By Genre: counted on episodes rather than titles, with the average rating, so three long seasons of one genre show up properly
  • Wishlist: titles you want, with a budget beside it
  • Monthly and Dashboard: month by month totals and the whole picture
  • Start Here and Setup: setup in a few minutes

Works with

  • Microsoft Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365, on Windows and Mac, and LibreOffice
  • Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook you copy, not a PDF with a link in it.
  • No dynamic arrays, no macros, no add-ins and no subscription

What you download

  • Two Excel files: a worked year with 62 titles across 17 shows, 41 finished, 272 episodes, 126 nights logged and 244 hours, and a blank copy
  • The instruction guide, which has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions
  • The terms of use as a PDF

Your files are ready the moment payment clears. The tracker is for personal and business use on your own devices, so please do not share or resell the files. Questions? Reach us through our contact page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Excel, or can I use Google Sheets?

Either. The download has Excel files for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to copy the Google Sheets versions with a free Google account.

How does it know which season to watch next?

The Seasons tab finds the lowest-numbered season of each show you have not watched. Mark one finished and the next moves up automatically.

Do I have to log every night I watch?

No. The Watch Log is optional. Skip it and the rest of the tracker still works.

Can I track films as well as TV shows?

Yes. The Watchlist holds 400 titles, including films and seasons of shows, each with a status and a rating.

Can I set a yearly watching goal?

Yes. The Challenge tab tracks a yearly goal with your pace, whether you are ahead or behind, and the date you would finish at your current rate.
