About this template

This cycling log is for riders who put in enough distance to wear out a chain and want their rides and their bike parts in one file. Log each ride once with distance, time and climbing, and the workbook works out your speed, your weekly totals and how worn every part is.

Every part on every bike counts the distance ridden since it was fitted, and tells you when the chain, the tires or the brake pads are due.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

The dashboard

Nothing on the dashboard is typed. Pick All bikes or one bike and the whole page follows.

  • Distance: distance ridden and how much of the year's goal it is
  • The year so far: distance added up month by month against the pace for your goal
  • The last 16 weeks: every week's distance against your weekly goal
  • The longest rides: your five longest, with time, climbing and speed
  • Average speed over moving time, by month, and your average heart rate
  • How worn the parts are: each part's distance against its life, amber when due soon
  • Kinds of ride: road, gravel, commute, group rides and indoor as shares, and meters climbed month by month

What sets it apart

  • Parts that count their own distance: list the chain, tires, pads, cassette and service for each bike with the day each was fitted. Every ride on that bike adds to them, and each part reads Fine, Due soon or Replace now
  • A rough date, not just a percentage: each part's remaining life is divided by the last eight weeks of riding on that bike, so you know whether it is next week or next spring
  • Every ride worked out: distance, moving time and climbing typed, with average speed and meters climbed per kilometer calculated on every row
  • Weeks, months and the year: every week from Monday against your weekly goal, monthly distance, and progress toward your goal for the year

Six connected tabs

Start Here, Setup, Rides, Maintenance, Weekly and Dashboard. Rides are copied from any bike computer or app, and the file handles up to four bikes. The worked example follows one rider from January to September: 135 rides on a road bike, a gravel bike and an indoor trainer, ten parts tracked, brake pads marked Replace now and a tire and chain due soon. It doubles as a mileage tracker and bike maintenance record, and keeps your cycling training in a clear bike ride log and bike parts tracker.

Light and dark editions

Every download includes a light edition and a dark edition. Every tab is restyled, not just the dashboard, and both use the same formulas. Each comes filled with a worked example and blank, in Excel and in Google Sheets.

Works with

  • Microsoft Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365, on Windows and Mac, and LibreOffice
  • Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook you make your own copy of, not a PDF with a link in it.
  • No dynamic arrays, no macros, no add-ins and no subscription

What you download

  • Light edition: the Excel workbook filled with a worked example, and a blank one
  • Dark edition: the same two files in the dark design
  • The instruction guide, which has one-click links to the Google Sheets versions (light and dark, filled and blank)
  • The terms of use as a PDF

Your files are ready to download as soon as payment clears. The template is for personal and business use on your own devices, so please do not share or resell the files. Questions before or after you buy? Use our contact page and we will help.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work in Excel and Google Sheets?

Yes. You download Excel workbooks for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make your own copy in Google Sheets with a free Google account.

How many bikes can I track?

Up to four bikes, each with its own parts and rides.

How does it know when a part needs replacing?

Each part counts the distance ridden on its bike since the day it was fitted, compares it with the part's life and reads Fine, Due soon or Replace now, with a rough due date.

Does it import rides from my bike computer?

No. You copy distance, moving time and climbing from any bike computer or app, and the file works out the rest.

What is the difference between the light and dark editions?

Only the look. Both have the same tabs and formulas, and both are included in every download.
