About this template

This wedding song list is for couples who want the music sorted before the day, not during it. You put each song in the moment it belongs to, from the walk down the aisle to the last dance, and the file adds up the running time and tells you when every song will play.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

The dashboard

Every number on the dashboard comes from what you enter elsewhere. Choose Whole day or a single moment, such as First dance, and the page follows your pick.

  • How many songs are on the list, and how many are must plays
  • How full each moment is: its music against the minutes it lasts, flagged when short or over
  • The running order, with the time each song of the chosen moment plays
  • Guest requests, with the people behind them and how many songs each asked for
  • Songs starting in each hour, split into must play, would like and requests
  • Days left to send the list to your DJ, and any clash with the do not play list

Music timed against the clock

Each moment of the day gets a start time and a length. The Moments tab totals the songs inside it and gives a plain verdict such as Fills it, Short by 7:31 or Runs over by 1:55. Songs play in the order you list them, so the workbook works out when each one starts: the processional at 2:55 PM, the first dance song at 7:30 PM. Lengths go in as minutes and seconds, so there are no time format traps, and you can rename, add or remove moments to match your day.

A do not play list that checks itself

Write down the songs your wedding DJ should skip. If one of them has crept onto the song list, a guest request for instance, it is flagged on both tabs. Every song also carries a priority (must play, would like or guest request), who asked for it, and notes for the DJ like start at the chorus. The dashboard lists the songs everyone will remember, so the reception music has its big moments in plain view.

Six connected tabs

  • Moments: the parts of the day, with start times and the music in each
  • Do Not Play: the songs to skip, checked against your wedding playlist
  • Dashboard: the whole picture on one page

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Excel, or can I use Google Sheets?

Either works. The download includes Excel workbooks for Excel 2016 or later on Windows or Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to copy the Google Sheets versions with a free Google account.

How does it know if a moment has enough music?

You give each moment a start time and a length in minutes. The Moments tab adds up the songs you placed in it and says Fills it, Short by or Runs over by, with the minutes and seconds.

What happens if a banned song ends up on the list?

Any song on the Do Not Play tab that also appears on the Song List is flagged on both tabs, so you can take it off before the list goes to the DJ.

Can I change the moments of the day?

Yes. You can rename, add or remove moments, so the file fits a short ceremony or a long party.

Is there an example to follow?

Yes. The filled copy holds a 118-song wedding across twelve moments, and the blank copy is ready for your own day.
