About this template
This church budget spreadsheet is built for the treasurer who has to keep designated money where the giver meant it to go. It tracks tithes and offerings across five funds, keeps the restricted ones separate, and gives you the full church budget underneath.
Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).
Five funds, kept apart
Most giving logs only record what came in. A church treasurer also has to know how much of it is already promised. Here the building fund, missions, benevolence and designated giving each carry their own income and pay only for their own costs. A gift to the roof stays with the roof.
- Five funds, four of them restricted
- Spend more from a restricted fund than was given to it and the balance turns red
- Each fund shows its own money in and money out
Giving statements and pledges
The tithe tracker side of the workbook works by envelope number, so you can answer a member's question or prepare the year-end letter without searching through the ledger.
- A statement for every envelope number: each gift, the total given, the amount pledged and what is still to come
- A receipt number on each statement for the year-end letter
- A pledge tracker comparing what each giver promised with what has actually arrived
The budget and the books
Everything recalculates from two registers, money in and money out. Nothing is entered twice and there are no pivot tables to refresh.
- 1,000 ledger rows, with two years of demo data already entered in the filled copy
- Profit and loss by category, with monthly and quarterly views
- A custom date range and a year-on-year comparison
- Every total, margin and percentage calculated for you
- Charts that redraw from your own numbers, not static pictures
Thirteen connected tabs
A Start Here tab walks you through setup in a few minutes. From there the workbook covers setup, the giving tracker, income, expenses, monthly and quarterly views, profit and loss, a custom range, the year-on-year comparison, fund balances and a dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work in Excel or Google Sheets?
Both. You get two Excel files for Excel 2016 or later on Windows or Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to copy the Google Sheets versions with a free Google account.
Can I keep building fund and missions money separate from general giving?
Yes. There are five funds, four of them restricted, and each one has its own income and its own spending. If a restricted fund is overspent, its balance turns red.
Can I give members a statement of their giving?
Yes. Each envelope number gets a statement with its gifts, total given, amount pledged, what is still to come and a receipt number for the year-end letter.
Can I track pledges?
Yes. Pledges are compared with what has actually arrived, giver by giver.
Is there an example to learn from?
Yes. One copy comes filled with two years of demo data across 1,000 ledger rows, and a blank copy is ready for your own records.
