About this template

This florist business calculator costs your flowers stem by stem before you send the quote, not after the event. It is for wedding florists and flower shops who want to see the cost and margin of every arrangement in a job, and to catch the one that is losing money while there is still time to change it.

Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).

Stems, costed before you quote

The Stem Count tab works like a recipe cost sheet for floral design. It holds 120 lines, each tagged to an arrangement.

  • The flower, how many stems, the unit and the unit cost
  • Five units: stem, bunch, yard, each and gram
  • Line cost calculated, then summed into a cost per arrangement
  • What you sold the arrangement for, right beside its cost
  • Stems counted for each arrangement

Margin against the trade rule of thumb

A common guide in floristry is that flowers should be about a third of the price, which is a profit margin of around 67%. Any arrangement under 65% turns red. That does not mean the job is wrong. It means a lower margin is something you chose rather than something you found out later.

One margin per arrangement

A wedding is not one number. The bridal bouquet, the posies, the buttonholes, the centerpieces and the arch are kept as separate arrangements, each with its own margin. That mirrors how a wedding quote actually breaks down and shows you which single line is dragging the job down.

The ledger behind it

A flower business is still a business, so the bookkeeping sits in the same file.

  • Clients: who you work for
  • Income and Expenses: both registers
  • Monthly, Quarterly and Profit and Loss: totals by period
  • Balances and Dashboard: the full picture
  • Start Here and Setup: setup in a few minutes

Works with

  • Microsoft Excel 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365, on Windows and Mac, and LibreOffice
  • Google Sheets with a free Google account. The Google Sheets version is a real workbook you copy, not a PDF with a link in it.
  • No dynamic arrays, no macros, no add-ins and no subscription

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Excel, or can I use Google Sheets?

Either. The download has Excel files for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to copy the Google Sheets versions with a free Google account.

Can I cost foliage and ribbon that are not sold by the stem?

Yes. Each line can use one of five units: stem, bunch, yard, each or gram.

Why does an arrangement turn red?

Margin is checked against the rule of thumb that flowers are about a third of the price. Any arrangement with a margin under 65% turns red.

Can I see the margin on each part of a wedding?

Yes. The bouquet, posies, buttonholes, centerpieces and arch are separate arrangements, each with its own cost and margin.

How many stem lines does it hold?

The Stem Count tab has 120 lines across your arrangements.
