About this template
This home office expense tracker records every running cost as it happens, so nothing has to be reconstructed from statements in April. It is for people who work from home and want the year's costs ready as single figures.
Please read: This is a tracker tool only, not financial, tax, legal, medical or any other professional advice or advisory service. It records and calculates what you enter; you are solely responsible for checking all figures, rates, dates and results and for every decision you make. By purchasing, downloading or using it, you accept these terms (your statutory consumer rights are not affected).
Running costs, category by category
Rent, energy, internet and insurance each have their own category, so a year's worth is one figure at the end rather than a hunt through bank statements. The file adds up exactly what you enter. Every figure on the dashboard is calculated from the tabs behind it, and nothing is typed into a summary, so the front page always agrees with the rows it came from.
Twelve connected tabs
Every tab reads the same source list, so nothing is entered twice. There are 1,000 ledger rows and room for 200 trips:
- The ledger: Income and Expenses, 500 rows each, with the tax split out per line, your own categories and account balances
- The tax: sales tax by quarter and by rate, quarterly set-asides, and mileage valued at your rate
- The reporting: profit and loss, monthly and quarterly views, any date range, this year against last, and a live dashboard
For the self employed, that makes it a tax spreadsheet for all your business expenses, not just the home office. It includes a mileage tracker that values trips at your own rate, a profit and loss, quarterly set-asides and a comparison of this year against last.
You get real spreadsheet files, not a PDF with a link in it: Excel and Google Sheets, each filled in and each blank and ready for yours. The filled copy is the file in the photos, so you can see how it behaves before you type anything.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work in Excel or Google Sheets?
Both. You download Excel files for Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, and the instruction guide has one-click links to make Google Sheets copies with a free Google account.
Does it work out my home office deduction?
It records and totals your running costs by category. It does not decide what you can claim; that is for you or your accountant to check.
Which costs have their own categories?
Rent, energy, internet and insurance each have their own category, and you can edit the category list on Setup.
Can I log business mileage too?
Yes. There is room for 200 trips, each valued at the rate you set.
Can I see a quarter or a custom period?
Yes. There are monthly and quarterly views, and the custom range recalculates everything for any two dates.
